Why Join Cascade Volleyball Club?

Philosophy: We provide a fun and informative place for serious competitive volleyball players to learn volleyball skills and gain experience to become stronger players for their school teams and gain a life-long love of the game of volleyball. Our goal is to provide excellent coaching and a valuable volleyball experience in Seattle at a reasonable cost.

Benefits: It has almost become a prerequisite to play volleyball in the off-season to be a starter on a high school varsity team. It is difficult to maintain volleyball skills if the only time you play is the 3-month school season. For example, the leading high school teams in the KingCo 4A league have nearly 100% of their JV and Varsity players playing volleyball in the off-season. During a single club tournament, our teams will play a minimum of 10 games and could play as many as 20. Each team will play a number of tournaments throughout the club season. Intramural players will have weekly skill and play sessions.

Time Commitment: Club volleyball can be overwhelming in terms of time. By having practices in Seattle & seldom going further than Olympia or Mt. Vernon for tournaments we have cut down significantly on the time that club volleyball can consume. Most teams will have two 2-hour practices a week from December through the end of May and generally 2-4 weekend tournament days per month. Cascade also offers a once-a-week In-House Skills no-cut program option starting in January.

Location: There are very few club volleyball options in the city of Seattle. Our core practices are located in north Seattle sites. The tournaments will be mostly in Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, Puyalliup or Everett, except for the Pacific Northwest Qualifier in Spokane in March.

Coaches: We have assembled an energetic and highly skilled staff of coaches. Several of our coaches are current or recent college players. Because we are located very close to the University of Washington and Seattle Pacific University, many college players are instructors or coaches with Cascade Volleyball. Cascade VBC has sent over 40 coaches to advanced training: the intensive Gold Medal Squared Coaching Clinic (taught by NCAA Championship and former US Olympic Team Coaches Jim McLaughlin, Carl McGown and Marv Dunphy) and USAV CAP program (taught by current Olympic coach Hugh McCutcheon and USAV President Doug Beale).

Results: We have been in operation since the late 1990s. In that short time we have risen to be one of the strongest clubs in the region. We feel there is no better balance than Cascade Volleyball Club in terms of quality program, coach training, competitiveness, reasonable cost and time commitment – and fun! Players who have been in our program for at least two years are among the strongest players on their high school teams and more are going on to play in college.

Tryouts: Dates and times are indicated on our web site. The tryouts for middle school age girls for all clubs take place close to the first week of November followed by tryouts for high school age girls after the high school season is over around the third week of November.

Tips for Tryouts: You must pre-register for our tryouts on-line. Our coaches limit the number of spots for tryouts so they can better assess all players on the court. Don't leave it too late to sign up! Come rested and ready to play volleyball! The tryouts are not just about your current volleyball skills: coaches are also looking for qualities such as athletic ability, positive attitude, hustle, communication skills, helpfulness, ability to be a team player, and “coach-ability” (or how well a player can understand and execute what the instructor has just demonstrated). See our Tips for Tryouts tab.
